Hoarders: iPhone Edition

According to a survey released last month, more than half of consumers in America admit to owning two or more unused cell phones – and only 20% sell or recycle them! IMG_0964 iPhones account for a large portion of these unused phones, and with 85 million iPhones on the market today that makes for a lot of unused and neglected iPhones. There are several reasons for consumers holding onto their devices, one of the most common being the fact they’re unaware of the money that can be made reselling or recycling these devices. With just a quick search on Craigslist, I found hundreds of used iPhone 3’s and 4’s going for as much as $350! Even iPhones needing repairs are being sold for $75 and more, depending on the device and repairs needed. So the question I pose is this: does your repair shop offer to buy back old devices? Or do you offer discounts on more than one device being repaired? If you do, do you advertise this to your customers? Simply advertising this service on your website, Facebook page, or in your store can help in making your customers aware of this option. Some repair shops even offer consignment options for selling devices, which is the easiest option for customers interested in selling their unused devices. What are some ways you advertise this service to your customers? Have you had much luck offering this service to your customers?
