Level 10 Bargain Hunter

Some people think bargain hunting is a skill and some people think its a waste of time.  I can see both sides because often times you save money in the long run by spending a little more up front.  However, I am addicted to saving money and I have been honing my skills for 20 years.  I feel like I'm pretty good at it.  I think I have reached level 10 bargain hunter status.   I can no longer bring my self to pay retail for anything.   The way I see it, making your money go further is the same as making more money.  Its really amazing how much money you can save when you put some effort into it and it feels great to get a good deal and have some extra money in my pocket.  If you're not a bargain hunter and want to get started, you can take some small steps that will make a big difference.  Here are a few tips I use. 1. Buy used.  You can buy used items in great condition and save a ton!  I use www.craigslist.com for large items and www.ebay.com for smaller items that can ship cheaply.  You can save big money on Cars, Furniture, Electronics, and more.  I just purchased a $1400 Navigation/backup cam/stereo for my car that is in like new condition and only 6mo old for $575.  You should be careful on eBay that you are dealing with legitimate people and getting quality items. 2. Coupons.  A quick google search can often turn up a nice coupon.  I will even BUY coupons if I have to.  A good example of this is Home Depot and Lowe's.  We are expanding and building some offices on the second floor of our building.  I bought 3 10% off lowe's coupons for $3.75 off eBay which I used at Home Depot to save almost $475 on supplies for that project.  You should never pay full price at Home Depot or Lowe's. 3. Cash Back.  Get a cash back Credit Card.  You can get a credit card that will pay you 2% cash back on every purchase.  Beware of 2% cards that only pay on certain items.  I use the Sams Club Discover.  It pays 2% on Everything.  The government views this cash back as a coupon so its tax free.  Use this to pay as much as possible but dont go crazy and build up a balance you cant pay off each month.  Paying interest will negate the 2% back. 4. If you are buying Apple Parts, buy them at www.etechparts.com  :-) Go save some Money!
