Packaging and Shipping
Hanging out in the electronics markets of Shenzhen, China after hours I witnessed first-hand how some electronics parts are packaged and shipped to the US and other parts of the world. Shenzhen is the fourth largest port in the world in terms of shipping container throughput, and it has been the number one city in China in terms of export volume for the last twenty years. I was reminded how fortunate we are to have partners who handle our packages with care, and just how well we do packaging and shipping back home. In a perpetual cycle of selling, packaging and shipping, the streets at night come alive with vendors sending off what they sold that day.
For a westerner there is seemingly no order to the neurosis that follows. The feverish growth of this city seems to never have allowed anyone to stop and organize the madness. Piles of packages spill out into the streets. With the traffic, it's a miracle packages make it to their final destination.
Every back alleys is filled with vendors taping up their boxes almost superstitiously with the famous yellow tape.
Many packages are shipped off to Hong Kong where shipping rates are more reasonable than mainland China.
The smell of dumplings fills the air as the shippers work well into the night. Note the shipping supplies stand nearby absorbing the dumplings fragrance. I had to try the dumplings. They are delicious and ridiculously inexpensive.
Trucks, vans, bikes, anything that moves on the ground is loaded with packages until they can carry no more.
Back home, for some of you not familiar with our shipping method, we package and label each part individually. The label has the part number at the top, with a description and barcode for that part as well as a batch number, helping us identify the origin of the part.

Using FedEx allows us to ship fast anywhere in the country. If you live in the pink zone on this map you can select FedEx Ground and you will receive your package overnight for a lot less. Most of our customers select overnight shipping as we have an amazing overnight rate.
