Women Who Repair

womenrepair“I feel there is something unexplored about woman that only a woman can explore.” These words, once spoken by Georgia O’Keeffe, state perfectly what I mean to achieve in the next few weeks as I explore the world of technology and the role women play in this male-dominated field. Being a woman in a “man’s world” of technology can be both a blessing and a curse, depending on the workplace and point of view. Though many women find themselves dealing with gender discrimination and a fiercely competitive job market, there are several who have created networks filled with generous and supportive people with whom they’ve grown and progressed. In the following weeks I will tell the stories of four women working in the technology industry: Ally Kazmucha, an editor at iMore; Jessica Canady, Operations Manager of FavGeek in Decatur, AL; and Jenifer Shultz and Shannon Gill of CPR in Overland Park, KS. I’ve spoken with these women to learn who they are, what makes them tick, and why they chose technology – or rather, why technology chose them.
